Station #1 - 13720 S. Hwy 16 Rapid City, SD 57702

Was first occupied in 1995. The 40x92 Station includes four apparatus bays, bathrooms, an office, communications room, training room, and a kitchen. The building is located on property donated by the Duhamel family and Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns, Inc.  Engine 5-2, Tender 2-3, Engine 1-6 and Squad 8 are all located at Station 1

Engine 1-6 is a 1998 Smeal/Freightliner pumper. The chassis is a Freightliner FL80 all wheel drive chassis with a 325 hp turbo diesel Cummins engine and an Allison automatic transmission. The raised roof cab comfortably seats a crew of five; four in SCBA seats. This unit has a 1250 gpm Waterous water pump and a KK dual agent foam system. It carries 960 gallons of water and 20 gallons each of Class A foam concentrate and 1% Class B foam concentrate. Other features include a top mount pump operators console, full height lift up compartments on both sides of the body, a hydraulic ladder rack equipped with a 35 foot extension ladder, 14 foot roof ladder, 10 foot folding ladder, and two 10 foot sections of 6" hard suction hose. The body also features a 5000 watt on-board generator with two 1000 watt quartz tripod lights. The rear compartment is transverse and features two slots for backboards. The lower rear compartment features a roll out tray for our positive pressure ventilation fan. Compartments on the rear of the body hose both a dry chemical and a CO2 fire extinguishers. This well-rounded first out structural pumper also serves as a primary response vehicle for medical calls as well as motor vehicle accidents.

Engine 5-2  is the newest addition to the department. it replaces an older style Truck that matches Engine 6-5.  It is a 2014 International Terra Star 4x4 Chassis built by Spartan ERV out of Brankon, SD. Some features are a 400 Gallon water tank. 10 Gallon foam tank. Foam Pro 1600 injection System. Hose Real. HP 100 pump head with diesel motor and front mount bumper nozzels.


Squad 8 - Is a 2012 F-550 4x4 diesel 6.7L with a 10' service body built by Danko Fire Equipment. This unit is equipped with seating for 5. Front and rear mount winch set up. Generator for on scene lighting and power. Medical gear and rescue equipment for auto accidents, search and rescue, structure fires.

Tender 2-3 - Is capable of hauling 2500 gallons of water to almost anywhere the department responds. It is the only unit in the fleet that does not have 4 wheel drive.  It is equipped with auto chains.  It also has a built in pump. Foldable porta tank.

Station #2 - 23891 Coyote Flats Rd. Rapid City, SD 57702

Was Complete in July 2009 and is located at the intersection of Neck Yoke Rd an Coyote Flats Road.  This station features 4 apparatus bays. Bath Room with shower, office, kitchen and lots of storage. Engine 2-1, Engine 3-4, Engine 6-5 and Utility 7 are all located at Sation #2. 

Engine 2-1   Is a 2001 Pierce/Navistar Urban Interface pumper. It features a model 4800 all wheel drive chassis with a 330 HP turbo diesel engine and Allison automatic transmission. This unit is the largest compressed air foam unit in the state of South Dakota; with a capacity of 750 gpm of water and 200 cfm or compressed air. The booster tank holds 830 gallons of water and also includes a 20 gallon Class A foam cell. Foam solution is provided by a Foampro 2002 proportioner. The guts of the fire pump system is a 190 HP turbo charged Duetz diesel engine.

Engine 6-5 Is a NWCG type 6 brush engine. It is built on a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 four wheel drive chassis and is powered by a 454 cubic inch gasoline engine and automatic transmission. The heart of the fire suppression system, is a Berkeley 1 1/2" fire pump powered by an 18 HP Briggs & Stratton engine. Foam solution is provided by a Foampro 1601 proportioner. This unit is also used as back up initial response unit for medical first responder calls.

Engine 3-4 is a 2003 Freightliner FL70 4x4. It has a CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System). Engine 4 is NWCG type III. Carries 1200 Gallons of water. This truck is 1 of 12 that Pennington County Fire Service Board purchased for Pennington County Departments on a cost share program.  Engine 4 is designed for fire fighting in the Wildland Urban Interface. Responds to all Wildland calls that are in the Rockerville District and Mutual Aid Wildland calls all over Western SD and into Wyoming.  

Utility 7 is a 2017 Ram 3500 Diesel 4x4 that is used as personnel carrier, medical response unit, command center and what ever else the department can find for uses.  This unit is used on almost all department calls and functions due to mobility.   It is equipped with a custom flatbed and tool boxes that hold 2 SCBA's, 2 Mobile Command Radios, Medical Equipment, Thermal Imaging Monitor, and 2 Incident Command boards for keeping track of any incident.
